On behalf of the Evangelical Lutheran Church In Canada, I extend to you our sincerest blessings this Christmas season.
An angel came to Joseph in a dream and told him that this prophecy was fulfilled:
Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel.
Emmanuel means "God is with us."
Jesus Christ is, for us, Emmanuel.
In a world that ignores God,
he is the promise that God is.
In a world wracked by war and trauma,
he is the promise that God is not indifferent.
In a world of injustice and pain,
he is the promise that God suffers with us.
I would not be able to pray were I not assured that God is present to me.
This precious gift of presence, of love made flesh, came to us in the person of Jesus Christ, the child of promise born in Bethlehem. No greater joy can be ours than the promise that God is with us.
To you and yours this season, may this joyous message bring light and hope into your life.
