Chaplain Rev Val Hennig opened the session with devotions.

Presentation

Rev Neil Thomsen presented handcrafted asperges bowls to each of the synod bishops from the Convention Design Team. The bowls were crafted by Marlen Moggach, a member of St Peter, Cambridge, ON. The bowls were designed for the festive opening Eucharist service of the convention and serve as a remembrance of baptism.

NC-01-54 MS That the minutes from the seventh sitting be adopted as presented.

Report of the Committee on Reference and Counsel

NC-01-55 MS That the National Church Council initiate a process involving synods, to evaluate the effectiveness of our church's effort to foster church health and report to the 2003 National Convention.

NC-01-56 MS That at each convention every effort be made to conserve on paper and to use recycled paper whenever possible and that during or after each convention a tree be planted in recognition of the amount of paper used and in praise of the Creator.

NC-01-58 MS That the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada Eighth Biennial Convention express thanksgiving for the daily labours of the national church leaders:

noting particularly the years of service of Bishop Telmor as he retires;

That this church express gratitude for the daily labours and support of the National Church Council;

That this church, at the Eighth Biennial Convention, express gratitude for the work of the support staff and volunteers, namely Rhonda Hicks, Toni Walker and Lee Anderson whose steadfast generous support undergirded the work of the convention committees; namely Reference and Counsel, Minutes, Elections, Registration and Credentials and our Parliamentarians;

That this church express gratitude for the work of the Convention Manager, Heidi Wilker, the Convention Chaplain, Val Hennig, and the Worship Team;

That this church express gratitude for the volunteers who have facilitated the convention communication, newsletter and press conferences; and

That this church express gratitude for the Local Arrangements Committee and the Stewards and all volunteers who have assisted in making this event possible.

Recognition

Janet Morley, retiring Vice–President of the ELCIC was honoured as she leaves office. Her ministry as the Vice–President was warmly affirmed by her fellow Officers and the church in convention with a standing ovation. Gifts of thanks from the church were presented.

Chaplain Rev Val Hennig offered a closing devotion.

Bishop Telmor Sartison declared the business sessions of the Eighth Biennial Convention of the ELCIC officially closed.
