Anglican Companions

The Convention was honoured by the visit of three representatives of the Anglican Church of Canada. The official representative to our Convention was the Rev. Canon Alyson Barnett-Cowan, Director, Faith, Worship and Ministry. The Canon expressed her appreciation to the ELCIC for the personnel who sit with them in many settings. Included in those to whom she was making reference were our Bishops, the Rev. Michael Mills, and the Rev. Mark Harris. The Anglican Church is happy to be involved with us in our youth and worship conferences. Anglicans count it a privilege to work with us in proclaiming God's love.

Canon Barnett-Cowan then introduced the Bishop of the Diocese of Edmonton, the Rt. Rev. Victoria Matthews, who also expressed her thankfulness for our joint ventures.

The Rev. Matthews noted the recent decision in regard to Augustana and expressed the hope that Anglicans and Lutherans could work together to ensure that the Gospel is upheld in any new arrangement of Augustana in the public sector.

Via a previously recorded video, the Anglican Primate of Canada, the Most Reverend Michael Peers, addressed the gathering. He paid tribute to our present and past national bishops, particularly the Rev. Don Sjoberg, the Rev. Telmor Sartison, and the Rev. Ray Schultz.

These Bishops, each his own way, has contributed to the progress of increased fellowship and collaboration between our two churches. "I rejoice in our joint ventures. There is considerable fellowship at the national level. We look for increased fellowship and cooperation at the synodical and congregational levels. We offer prayers of thanksgiving for our friendship. We pray to the Spirit for even deeper relationships between our churches."
