Eight weeks on the road this summer for 13 cyclists travelling fro Ottawa, ON to Richmond, BC has been both gruelling and transformational. Their stop in Winnipeg coincides with this convention and so they made a visit to our assembly Friday afternoon.
The group includes three parents and 10 students, between ages 13-50, among them the congregation's pastor, Greg Kjos, the chairperson Paul Skinner and his daughter Hanna, and one of the congregation's musicians. Along the way they've tented and also stayed in ELCIC, LCC and ELCA congregations who've offered a hospice ministry: lodging overnight, a hot meal, and various other services like showers or laundry.
Through injuries, physical hardship and a 100-120 km/day pace, the cyclists have persevered to bring awareness and encouragement to the work of CLWR, to make connections with congregations across Canada and to develop Christian friendships. They also have a target goal of raising $10,000 in donations to be presented to CLWR.
So far, the group is healthy and in good spirits. They've already travelled 2400 km and anticipate finishing somewhere between August 15-20.
