The Fifteenth Biennial Convention of the ELCIC will be held in Edmonton, Alberta from July 9 to 12, 2015 with the plenary sessions occurring at the Shaw Conference Centre in downtown Edmonton. The National Convention will start at Thursday noon and end at Sunday noon. The Saturday, July 11th banquet will be held at the downtown Chateau Lacombe Hotel. The closing worship service on Sunday, July 12th will take place at Trinity Lutheran Church.
The registration fee of $1,350 for rostered and lay delegates includes two meals daily (lunch and supper/banquet) plus coffee breaks during the convention, delegate travel costs (travel equalization for all delegates across Canada), and transportation from and to the Edmonton Airport for delegates staying at the convention hotels or universities. The delegate registration fee does not include accommodation or breakfast. Delegates will be on their own for breakfast.
Twelve youth delegates are selected by the synods as members of the youth assembly. Youth shall be baptized members between the ages of 16 and 23 inclusive on the first full day of the convention.
Visitors are welcome to attend the ELCIC National Convention and can observe the convention proceedings from the visitor's gallery. The visitor registration fee for the entire convention will be $100. A daily visitor registration is also available at $35 per day. If visitors want to attend the meals, a meal package and banquet tickets will be available for purchase on the registration form. Please note that travel and accommodation are not included in the visitor's registration fee.
Accommodations will be available at six downtown hotels near the Shaw Conference Centre and at two universities located further away from the downtown area. Accommodations are not included in the registration fees. The 2015 accommodation rates will be confirmed in late 2014.
The Bulletin of Reports will be posted to the ELCIC website on May 25, 2015 and if an attendee requires a printed copy of the Bulletin of Reports, there will be a fee of $40 to cover printing and shipping costs.
As per Part VI Conventions, Section 14 of the ELCIC Administrative By-laws, petitions from synods and congregations shall be submitted to the National Secretary not later than three months prior to the convention for referral to the Committee of Reference and Counsel and for inclusion in the Bulletin of Reports. Therefore, the deadline for submissions of petitions to the National Secretary is April 8, 2015. Petitions can be emailed to the National Secretary at firstname.lastname@example.org.
At the end of November 2014, a notice will be mailed to all congregations by the National Office regarding the election of lay delegates to the convention. This notice will also be posted to the ELCIC website.
The election of rostered delegates (ordained or diaconal ministers) for the National Convention shall be held at regular conference meetings during 2014. The rostered delegate list will be finalized by November 30, 2014. Synods will inform parishes by December 15, 2014 if they are eligible to elect a lay delegate.
The convention registration information package will be posted to the ELCIC website on February 23, 2015. Online registration will open on March 2, 2015.
