It's Your Call--identify, explore and celebrate vocation

Suggested prayers and intercessions for the Second Sunday after Epiphany (Year A)

A: With the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, let us pray for the church, those in need, and all of God's creation.
A: Spirit of God, we thank you for renewing the earth and all creation with your vitality and new life. Empower all humanity with the vision to see you at work in the world. Hear us O God;
C: Your mercy is great.
A: Spirit of God, as you anointed Jesus with the sign of the descending dove that remained with him through the gift of baptism, help us remember our own baptisms and be enriched day by day to live in newness of life. Hear us O God;
C: Your mercy is great.
A: Spirit of God, as you gave insight to John the Baptist and the disciples to see Jesus and proclaim him Son of God, inspire your church to confess Jesus as the Messiah, the one who calls and gathers us to be one. Hear us O God,
C: Your mercy is great.
A: Spirit of God, as Jesus invited his followers to come and see, so call us to discipleship in all that we say and do. Give a new determination to our church to bear witness to Christ as your apostolic people. Hear us O God,
C: Your mercy is great.
A: Spirit of God, as you commissioned John, Andrew and Peter as the first disciples of Jesus, so ordain your church with bold leaders. Give grace and wisdom to our National Bishop Raymond Schultz, and our synodical Bishop _____; to Archbishop Andrew Hutchison, the Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, and to _____ the Bishop of our local diocese. Hear us O God.
C: Your mercy is great.
A: Spirit of God, as many have answered your call to discipleship, bestow the gift of discernment on this congregation and upon all who may sense your call to ordained or diaconal ministry in this church. Inspire many to know it's your call to a vocation of church leadership, witness and service in your name. Hear us O God.
C: Your mercy is great.
A: Spirit of God, give comfort to all who mourn (especially_______________) May your healing presence remain on those who are ill, lonely or depressed (namely __________ ) Give peace and hope to those who live in poverty or conflict, violence or fear (particularly_____________). Hear us O God.
C: Your mercy is great.
A: Spirit of God, remain with us as we enjoy the presence of Christ in the meal of Holy Communion. At table with Jesus, strengthen our trust in Christ and our commitment to be a church for others. Hear us O God.
C: Your mercy is great.
P: Into your hands, gracious God, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy; through Jesus Christ our Saviour.
