From the Office of the Bishop

Winnipeg, November 16, 2001, (ELCIC) -- The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) has appointed Robert Granke as the director of the LWF Department of World Service. In order to accept the appointment, Mr. Granke has resigned as Secretary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) and hopes to begin his new position in March or April 2002. He was elected to a second term as Secretary at the ELCIC's National Convention in Waterloo in July.

"It has been a privilege and honour to have served as Secretary of the ELCIC," says Mr. Granke. "I will always cherish this experience, and I thank God for the opportunity to serve."

Details of a period of transition have yet to be developed. The ELCIC's National Church Council is empowered to fill the position until the ELCIC's National Convention in Camrose, AB, June 2003. Because two of the other officers are ordained pastors, the position must be filled by a layperson, according to the ELCIC's constitutional requirements.
