From The Assembly Local Committee for The Tenth Assembly of The Lutheran World Federation

Winnipeg, February 1, 2002, (ELCIC) -- National Bishop Raymond L. Schultz of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) has announced the appointment of Rhonda Lorch as chairperson of the Assembly Local Committee for the Tenth Assembly of The Lutheran World Federation (LWF). Ms. Lorch replaces Robert Granke who has resigned as Secretary of the ELCIC to become the director of the LWF Department of World Service.

The Assembly will be held in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, July 21 to 31, 2003, with the theme “For the Healing of the World.” “The opportunity to host the world is both exciting and challenging,” said Bishop Schultz.

The Assembly Local Committee has begun to identify hundreds of opportunities for volunteers that include such things as drivers, ushers, security staff, tour guides, hospitality personnel, communications assistants, and airport greeters. Local church members will be sought who can provide billets for volunteers from other parts of North America. Recruitment for specific volunteer opportunities is expected to begin in Spring 2002.
