A NEWS RELEASE
From the Office of the Bishop
Winnipeg, March 19, 2002, (ELCIC) -- The National Church Council of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC), meeting in Winnipeg, March 14-16, has appointed Mr. Don Storch as Secretary of the ELCIC until the ELCIC’s National Convention in Camrose, Alberta, in June 2003. Mr. Robert Granke resigned from the position to assume new duties as the director of the Lutheran World Federation’s Department of World Service.
Mr. Storch will be the first person to serve as Secretary in a volunteer capacity rather than as a full-time paid member of national staff. National office staff will carry out the work of the Secretary's office on a day-to-day basis. Mr. Storch was first elected as a member of NCC in 1997 and was re-elected in 2001. The position he filled as a lay member from British Columbia Synod was declared vacant by the NCC.
Mr. Storch holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work. He is a registered social worker, licensed for private practice and is self-employed. He is chair-elect of the Victorian Order of Nurses, Canada, and will assume that office in November, 2002. He has been serving as a board member of Luther Court Society in Victoria for the past four years, two of those as chair of the board. He has also served as chair of Faith Lutheran Church in Calgary, Alberta and Good Samaritan Society in Edmonton.
His wife, Dr. Janet Storch, is Professor of Nursing at the University of Victoria, with a specialty in ethics. She is also a member of the Board of Governors of Waterloo Lutheran Seminary. The Storches are members of Lutheran Church of the Cross, Victoria, and are proud parents of three grown children.
