Winnipeg, June 30, 2005 (ELCIC)--The National Office is seeking applicants for a senior position in policy and stewardship administration. Applicants for this position will have Lutheran theological training with an emphasis on systematic theology and ethics and will be able to represent this church in the public forum. The applicants for this position will have creative skills in verbal, written and educational communication. The ability to work in a collaborative, interactive office environment is essential.

The National Bishop is the chief spokesperson for this church on public issues.

The Assistant for Public Policy will:
    • Assist the National Bishop to respond to public issues
    • Act as the policy advisor and liaison to the Public Policy consultants
    • Advise the National Bishop on the appointment of Policy Consultants to various specific ecumenical and other partner agencies and programs
    • Represent the National Bishop’s Office on the Board of KAIROS, Canadian Council of Churches Commission on Justice and Peace, and CLWR
    • Develop relationships with ecumenical partners
    • Conduct research and policy development out of the Lutheran Office for Public Policy
The Assistant for Stewardship will:
    • Implement the ELCIC Strategy for Stewardship 2006-2010
    • Facilitate cooperation between National programs, especially GHDA and Lutheran Planned Giving
    • Support, train and share ideas with/among Synod Representatives and committees/teams
    • Convene an annual Stewardship Consultation
    • Oversee the development and distribution of stewardship resources to congregations
    • Develop relationships with ecumenical partners
    • Monitor financial offerings to congregations, synods and national church.

The Assistant for GHDA will:
    • Plan and promote the work of GHDA as Coordinator
    • Convene a biennial GHDA Consultation
    • Develop relationships with ecumenical partners

Anticipated starting date: 1 September 2005
