Saskatoon, November 15--The Board of Governors of Lutheran Theological Seminary, Saskatoon is pleased to announce that the Rev. Kevin A. Ogilvie is the new President-Elect of LTS. Following a long and extensive search process, the Board voted on November 13 to offer the position of President to Rev. Ogilvie. He is expected to assume office on or about January 1, 2006.

Rev. Ogilvie graduated from Lutheran Theological Seminary, Philadelphia and was ordained in 1982. He served as Pastor of two Lutheran congregations in New York State between 1982 and 1991. In 1991, under the call of the Division for Global Mission (ELCA), he became a Missionary to Madagascar, serving as secretary for evangelism in a newly developed synod. In 1995 he served as an Intentional Interim Pastor in New York.

In 1996, Rev. Ogilvie returned to Madagascar to serve first as the Director of the Regional Lutheran Theological Seminary at Bezaha, then as a Mission Administrator. Rev. Ogilvie resigned his position and returned to the United States in mid-2005. He currently resides in St. Paul, Minnesota, with his son Hery.

In his public presentation to the seminary community, Rev. Ogilvie equated pastoral ministry with being a "beloved guest" in the congregation or wherever ministry happens. For Ogilvie, the seminary is a place where people are trained to enter into a ministry setting, sample the fare that is offered, receive hospitality, and leave blessings upon departing. Board members see in Ogilvie a gracious individual who will represent the seminary effectively to synods, congregations, alumni and others. Faculty, staff and students recognize in him a person who will build collegiality and a spirit of joy in serving. All look to him to lead the seminary in its mission "to identify, prepare and continue the formation of leaders for diverse ministries who confidently witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a dynamic, increasingly secular, multi-faith and multi-cultural world."
