The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada currently has five (5) active task forces carrying out various forms of work. Learn more about each task force below:
Task Force on Leadership
- Established: 2022
- Term: 2025
- Mandate: The Conference of Bishops recommends that National Church Council form a task force to examine our current methods of formation, theological education, curriculum delivery requirements, and the candidacy process with respect to rostered leaders, and to provide recommendations for future processes that will better serve this Church.
Task Force Addressing Carbon Neutrality
- Established: 2019 (formerly the Net Zero Task Force)
- Term: 2025
- Mandate: National Church Council directs the National Bishop to appoint a diverse and effective task force to investigate what would be required for the ELCIC to be carbon neutral by 2050, while identifying resources to support and encourage faith communities on the journey toward climate justice and carbon neutrality.

Task Force on Ability and Inclusion
- Established: 2019 (formerly the Task Force Addressing Ableism and Accessibility)
- Term: 2025
- Mandate: Comprised of people with disabilities, along with allies and professionals with experience in working with people with disabilities, the task force is asked to identify resources and deepen understanding on issues and experiences of those suffering injustices and marginalization throughout the church based on ability and inclusion.
Task Force Addressing Racism, White Supremacy and Racial Justice
- Established: 2019
- Term: 2025
- Mandate: Comprised of BIPOC peoples, along with white allies, the task force is asked to identify resources and deepen understanding on issues and experiences of those suffering injustices and marginalization throughout the church based on racism, white supremacy and racial injustice.
Task Force Addressing Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia
- Established: 2019
- Term: 2025
- Mandate: Comprised of persons who identify as LGBTQ2SIA+ or other identities not listed but known within the community, along with allies, the task force is asked to identify resources and deepen understanding on issues and experiences of those suffering injustices and marginalization throughout the church based on homophobia, biphobia and transphobia.
