Peace With Creation

Every year from September 1 through to October 4, Christians around the world lift up the Season of Creation.

The ELCIC invites members and congregations to join with those from various traditions in celebrating and honouring the month-long initiative. You are invited consider how you might engage in worship that deepens your ties and connections to creation with a focus on renewing commitments to climate justice.

This year’s theme is Peace With Creation, stemming from Isaiah 32:14-18, which speaks of the transformation from wilderness to fruitful land through the work of the Holy Spirit. Alongside the theme comes the call to action: “To hope is to act, pray, change, and reconcile with Creation and the Creator in unity, metanoia and solidarity.”

“While the spirit of this theme has been reflected in previous years, I think it is a key message for these times as people are seeing, hearing, experiencing the cries of humanity and the Earth impacted by prolonged conflict and climate change,” said Beth Lorimer, who works for KAIROS Canada as the ecological justice program coordinator.

“The theme invites us into prayer, reflection, and action for just peace for all God’s creation. I think the Season of Creation is an important and sacred time for us to deepen our prayer, reflection and action in care of creation and to strengthen our understanding of the interconnectedness of all creation.”

A 41-page Season of Creation Celebration Guide has been made available for download for those interested in participating. Download that file here.

For the Love of Creation is also offering a public blog to share a calendar of events and key moments during the Season of Creation. Should you have events or resources to share, email flc.pac@gmail.com to have them added to the blog.

“The ELCIC and global Lutheran community recognize that care of creation is a matter of faith, so it is important to honour this sacred time as a responsibility and living commitment to their faith,” Lorimer concluded. “There are many ways to observe the Season of Creation. I encourage people to visit the Season of Creation website and be inspired by the many ways people around the world are marking this month. I also draw attention to For the Love of Creation’s calendar of events and key moments for 2025 Season of Creation.”
