National Church Council meets in advance of installation

The ELCIC’s National Church Council (NCC) met in Winnipeg late-September for its first gathering since elections from July’s National Convention.

It was also the first meeting with Rev. Dr. Larry Kochendorfer, who was elected National Bishop at convention.

NCC members engaged in discussions about the church’s work and future while reflecting on scripture and spending time in worship.

The Facing Today – Dreaming for the Future initiative – a three-year process of listening and engaging to explore the meaning of being church now and in the years ahead – was a key focus, while NCC also looked back on the 2025 National Convention and the pre-identification process for bishop elections.

Several motions referred to NCC from convention made up part of the agenda time, while NCC also began discussing the ELCIC’s 40th anniversary which will take place in 2026.

The meetings concluded just prior to the Installation Service for the National Bishop, which took place on Satuday, September 27 at Faith Lutheran Church, Winnipeg, MB.
