Ken Hartviksen, former treasurer of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC), died unexpectantly on Wednesday, April 13 in the intensive care unit at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, from complications due to minor surgery.
Hartviksen served as treasurer of the national church from 2007 to 2011.
During that time, Hartviksen chaired the Finance Committee, served on the Resource Generation Strategy Task Force, and Audit Committee.
“Ken brought many gifts to our church during his time as treasurer,” says ELCIC National Bishop Susan Johnson. “His educational background and university experience helped us to look at the big picture in terms of the resources of our church. He was a valued team player of the officers and of National Church Council.”
Professionally, Hartviksen was a professor of finance/entrepreneurship/financial institutions. He was the founding Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, Lakehead University, where he was a professor for 42 years.
An active member of Salem-Pass Lake, Thunder Bay, Hartviksen was well known for his love and gift of music and photography.
Hartviksen and his wife, Connie, were looking forward to his retirement at the end of June this year. Together with their two children, Keely and Kellen, and their families, they were looking forward to spending more time together.
