Redouble our efforts to address the climate crisis

The ELCIC invites its members on a journey to carbon neutrality. The goal of carbon neutrality is to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, to help limit global temperature increases and, therefore, to reduce the impacts of climate change. The 2023 Special Convention endorsed recommendations from the Task Force on Carbon Neutrality, including a commitment for the ELCIC to be carbon neutral by 2050.

Becoming carbon neutral is a huge challenge but it is attainable. The implications and difficulty of specific options for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions vary from context to context. Contextual solutions for how to move toward carbon neutrality will need to be as diverse as the people who are implementing actions. Bring your wisdom, creativity, and voice to this journey. Walk with openness to spiritual growth, learning, and partnership. Walk with respect, passion, hope, and a sense of God’s presence.

Reducing Environmental Footprint

The ELCIC has developed a Green House Gas (GHG) Inventory Calculator for Congregations to assist faith communities in monitoring emissions.
