In 2018, the ELCIC’s National Church Council approved a task force to work on the development of a new vision statement for the ELCIC. A key piece of this work was broad consultation across the church.

The language that ultimately became our vision statement was gathered directly from engaging ELCIC members in their hopes and dreams for the ELCIC.

As a result, our new vision statement is the voice of our church members.

Our new vision statement is a bold statement that challenges us and calls us forward. And, it inspired us to begin a rebranding process.

We have changed A LOT as a church since the original ELCIC logo was introduced in 1986.

By revisiting the statements and input received through the vision statement work, we began to lay the foundation for our next steps. The words reflected in that feedback helped us consider what imagery would best represent who we are as a church, and our unique identity as the ELCIC.

This led to the development of our new logo’s key visual elements:

The dove and olive branch – symbolizes love, peace, and hope.
The cross – at the heart of all things is Christ, our faith, the Holy Spirit, and forgiveness.
The open hand – God’s grace, welcoming, openness.

Our new logo brings all these elements together, presenting us with a contemporary expression of looking to the future of the church, while also representing elements of our faith presented in a modern way.

Simple little design features like a nod to the previous logo’s burgundy branding but the gradation of colour that moves from the left to the right provides a sense of energy and forward momentum, but also allow us to honour who we are and where we came from.

Our new tagline – Living Out God’s Grace & Unconditional Love – engages us, reminding us of our call as a church and as individuals.  As a community of people, guided by our faith, we strive to embody grace and unconditional love in everything we do.
