Faith, Order and Doctrine (FOD) advises the ELCIC’s National Church Council (NCC) on matters of faith, order and doctrine which are referred to it by NCC. FOD provides a setting for study and reflection, meets to determine courses of action, reports on important theological understandings, and makes recommendations to NCC for further action.
The FOD committee is appointed by NCC and consists of nine members, including:
- one member of NCC,
- one synod bishop,
- one theologian recommended by each seminary,
- one rostered pastor,
- one rostered diaconal minister,
- two lay persons,
- and one member of the Anglican Church of Canada.
The National Bishop is a member ex officio and staff support is provided through the office of the National Bishop.
