Canada Lutheran, the national publication of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, has been recognized with six awards – including the coveted A.C. Forrest Memorial Award – at the Canadian Christian Communicators Association (CCCA) awards program held on Friday, May 3.
“I am so proud of everyone involved with our national publication, Canada Lutheran,” said Canada Lutheran editorial director Trina Gallop Blank. “None of this could be possible without the staff team and our writers and contributors. These awards are not just a testament to individual excellence, but a celebration of collective effort. It is a joy to work alongside and with this team; I am constantly inspired by their talent, creativity and commitment to our church.”
The annual CCCA awards program highlights excellence in Christian publication with first, second and third-place awards in roughly 30 categories. Entrants are provided with thorough feedback on all submissions by judges.
Award categories include:
- Writing and reporting
- Graphic design (photography, artwork and cover page design)
- Online media such as websites, blogs, videos, podcasts and social media.
- A student award (open to post-secondary students of all ages).
Canada Lutheran was presented with the A.C. Forrest Memorial Award, which recognizes excellence in socially conscious religious journalism for its piece, “A commitment to reconciliation and racial justice” by Sarah Malina.
“I was engrossed as the writer took me to many different places, meeting various people, and exploring varying aspects which in turn encouraged me to think, explore, and examine my ‘commitment to reconciliation and racial justice’,” judges commented.
Canada Lutheran also earned first place in service journalism for “Sing a new song”, written by Jamie Foley.
ELCIC graphic designer Catherine Crivici earned second place for her layout and design work in the “Congregational health” issue.
Canada Lutheran was also presented with three third place awards in the ‘general excellence’, ‘interview’ and ‘photo essay’ categories.
